Novacroft is looking for an Apprentice HR Assistant. 

Are you looking for your first role in HR? Or do want to work whilst studying for a formal qualification in HR? We’re hiring for an Apprentice HR Assistant to join our HR team, based in Northampton.

Reporting into the Senior HR Business Partner, this role has exposure to all areas of HR, so an interest in HR and developing a career is essential.

The Apprentice HR Assistant will support the HR team by providing an efficient and effective HR service for Novacroft. The Apprentice HR Assistant will provide general day-to-day HR Support in
relation to all HR, payroll, learning and development and other administration for team members.

Day-to-day responsibilities

  • Assist the Senior HR Business Partner with the full recruitment process, including:
    • Checking job descriptions
    • Placing job advertisements online
    • Arranging interviews
    • Liaising with recruitment agencies
    • Liaising with candidates at interview and offer stage
  • Keeping the job and candidate tracking system updated, including:
    • Inputting new job roles onto tracking system
    • Checking applications and doing initial screening, forwarding on for further consideration where appropriate
    • Ensuring timely feedback on job applications from recruiting managers
    • Rejecting unsuccessful applicants
    • Providing feedback to candidates
    • Ensuring systems are kept updated at all times
  • Managing the new starter process, ensuring that all tasks completed in a timely manner
  • Assist with systems integration including updating team member records and keeping
    team member master spreadsheet up to date
  • Arranging training courses for groups and individuals, including internal lunch and learn sessions
  • General administrative duties including writing letters to confirm changes in employment terms, responding to employment reference requests and HR filing including archiving leaver’s files
  • Respond to basic HR queries on a day-to-day basis
  • Undertake ad-hoc projects as and when required
  • Ensure compliance with all company procedures and policies
  • Any other ad hoc duties as and when required


  • Educated to GCSE or equivalent, including Maths and English
  • Experience of working in an assistant or administrator role, ideally in a technical, software or contact centre environment. A keen interest in HR topics including employee engagement, health and wellbeing, and organisational development is essential
  • PC literate, intermediate level Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Ability to deal with individuals at all levels
  • Quick learner, proactive and able to use own initiative
  • Good team player
  • Flexible approach, able to multitask and keep calm under pressure

Minimum qualifications

  • GCSE – English and Maths (Grade C or above)
